Thing 20 – Read About Web 2.0

Web 2.0 is a term with many definitions. Speaking generally, it’s used to describe the large variety of services available through your browser that encourage user participation, user creation of content, and the sharing of content. The vast majority of the tools we’ve looked at in the 23 Things program have been described as Web 2.0 tools.

Web 2.0 characteristics are said to include:

  • Openness
  • Customisation
  • Trust
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Creativity

The term Web 2.0 has given rise to terms such as Education 2.0 and Learning 2.0, among others.

Criticism of Web 2.0

Of course Web 2.0 is not without its critics. With 2.0 lacking a solid definition, its promoters have sometimes been called "twopointopians".

Your Task

After you’ve watched the above video and read through some of the Resources, write a brief blog post about your understanding of Web 2.0, and how its characteristics might relate to the VET environment.
